Single Tooth Implants
Fix a missing tooth with a dental implant.
Many people think of dental implants as a way to replace dentures or dental bridges when they are missing all or most of their teeth. But they can also fix a missing tooth severely damaged or knocked out when your other teeth are healthy.
Should You Get an Implant for One Missing Tooth?
The short answer is “Yes.” A single-tooth replacement is worth the investment because it protects the remaining teeth from damage in the future. Once you lose a tooth, the empty socket in the jawbone begins to deteriorate, a process called resorption. The teeth on either side begin to shift to fill the collapsed empty space, creating a domino effect and displacing other teeth. The result is misaligned teeth that are more difficult to clean and the potential for more cavities and gum disease, leading to more tooth loss.
Single Implant Placement
Placing a single dental implant is a straightforward process. We numb the area around the empty tooth socket, and Dr. Precaj carefully places a titanium or zirconia implant in the tooth socket. Once in place, he will attach a temporary crown to the implant. At the same time, the jawbone is allowed to heal, and the implant fuses (osseointegrates) with the surrounding bone. This usually takes 3-6 months. Once the implant is fused with the jawbone, the temporary crown is removed, and a custom-made crown is permanently attached that will last for decades.
Single Tooth Implant FAQs
How long will a single dental implant last?
An individual implant and crown can last for decades, providing a long-term solution to your missing tooth. If the crown is ever damaged, it can usually be removed and replaced without disturbing the titanium implant.
Is it painful to fix a missing tooth with an implant?
While you may experience mild pain and swelling for a few days after the procedure, it is manageable with over-the-counter pain relievers like Ibuprofen or Aleve. Cold compresses or an ice pack on the cheek can also help alleviate discomfort.
What does a single tooth implant cost?
It depends on the type of implant and crown used, whether we use sedation during the procedure and other factors, but you can expect to pay between $3,000 and $6,000.
Does insurance cover a single-tooth implant?
It depends on your insurance. Most plans will cover the implant if it is deemed medically necessary, while others will cover a portion but not all of the cost. Please get in touch with your insurance provider to learn more.
